Gabe Newell continues to get pie in his face. Per The Verge: Microsoft revealed today that the company has sold 40 million licences of Windows 8 to date. Tami Reller, the Windows Chief Marketing and Financial Officer, revealed the figure during a speech at Credit Suisse 2012 Annual Technology Conference.
Yup, that's right. 40 million in about a month. It sold 4 million its first weekend. Microsoft missed its internal projections, but it's hard to ignore 40 million licenses sold in about a month's time. That's a rate that exceeded that of Windows 7, which sold roughly 60 million copies in 10 weeks time.
So much for that catastrophe, huh Gabe?
